Brood Inspection

Inspected Hive 1 & 2. Honey Production in progress. Put mouse excluders on #1 and #3 (empty) and added a box to Hive #2. Removed approximately 20 queen cups from Hives #1 & #2. There is honey production in both Hives #1 & 2, but greater in #2, which is the Hive that we purchased from Ray Banks (already in production). The box was added to that box so the bees would have more room and so they wouldn't swarm. The queen cups are queen eggs, so they have to be eliminated (only one queen per hive).

Allen sent the following report to Ray Banks: We had about 10 queen cups in Hive #1. It appears to be doing very well based on brood laying, nectar collection (sugar water is just an inch lower than 2 weeks ago) and also has capped honey. There were some brown deposits in some of the cells and seeking counsel on what it is. Ray said that the brown material must be bee bread.

Checking on Hives again on Saturday, May 19. Raining cats and dogs right now.
